Coimbatore Malayali, Samajam is 60 years young. Established in 1955, this organization is the incarnation of the aspirations of the aspirations, dreams and ambitions of expatriate Malayalis of Coimbatore. It is born with a vision of bringing together the Malayali Diaspora of Coimbatore, to cultivate a sanse of togetherness, harmony and to provide a forum to share the intense sentiments lurking in the minds of each one who nurture those nostalgic roots that are kept alive in a remote corner of the heart.
Coimbatore Malayalis have carved out a niche for themselves in this city and the Malayali Samajam stood in the forefront as their collective voice. The role played by the Samajam in bringing siruvani water Into the city is commended by one and all. Cultural dissemination is one of the major portfolios of CMS. This organization has grown in size and spread its wings of ambition. The last 55 years of its existence has generated enormous goodwill for the Malayali community. Samajam was adjudged as the best run, Malayali Organsiation in the whole of India and awarded “Akshsya” by the eminent juries.
From the days of the founder president Late Sri.C.Kuttan Nair, the successors occupied till date, mantle has passed on with more and more intensity and the Samajam has upheld the highest possible values and transparency. CMS runs two schools in Malayalam Medium, three schools in English Medium, a working women’s Hostel, in which more than 5000 students are studying together with a B.Ed., College and a Library with more then 10,000 volumes. Few members of the Samajam have promoted a charitable trust and established 3 well reputed college viz CMS college of Science and Commerce at Chinnavedanpatty, CMS Institute of Management Studies, CMS AMT graded as “A” by the NAAC which provide more than 30 Job oriented courses. This College is a boon to more than 4500 students every year who are ambitious for a bright future. The trust has also promoted an engineering college with more than 600 students. As a matter of Policy, the Samajam Schools do not charge exorbitant fees, do not interview parents before granting admission as many others do, and do not see the color, creed, caste religion, or the language of the kids or their parents. CMS is the most cosmopolitan organization of its kind, in the whole of India, and perhaps in the whole world. We are proud of this, we are proud of our ideals that we hold close to our heart and they in turn provide us strength to aim higher and to try harder. Samajam has celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 4.2.2005 and inaugurated a newly constructed auditorium by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala SRI.Ommenchandy.
